Knowing the wire your fence will be constructed with is crucial to selecting the correct material and spacing for your fence post. For instance, with a high tensile steel wire product, the post can be farther apart than a medium tensile or low tensile product. Since the wire is more resilient and stronger, it can endure more tension without sagging or stretching. On the other hand, for a low-carbon steel product the posts should be closer together because the material has a lower flexibility.
If using high tensile fixed knot wire, post spacing can average around 20 feet depending on the terrain because it is the strongest wire on the market. For hinge joint knot wire, post spacing varies based on the product. A low-carbon wire will need around 8 feet for spacing, while a high tensile product can handle 15 feet. Pasture Management horse and sheet wire require 12 feet spacing.
